Treaty Week observed at Timmins Museum

Next week is Treaty Recognition Week, and the Timmins Museum has a long list of activities to observe it.

Program coordinator Monica Towsley says it begins on the weekend.

“On  Saturday the 2nd, we have a Niska Noel sale.  So it’s all indigenous artists from Timmins and up the coast that are coming here with their handmade crafts and selling them,” she notes.

The sale and all other activities run from 10:00am until 4:00pm.

“We’re going to have a drumming band here as well, performing throughout the day,” Towsley adds, “and then we’re going to have demonstrators doing tamarack birds and carving and things like that.  We’re also going to have a tepee out front, serving bannock.”

Among other observances during the week, there are workshops for adults and children to learn how to make their own dream catchers.
