Lookout visitors select Yo! Mobile for donation

The Yo! Mobile is back in operation for another season, bolstered by a $5,000 donation from Newmont Goldcorp.

That’s the result of 3,500 people visiting the Hollinger Open Pit Lookout this past weekend.  Just over a quarter of them voted for the Yo! Mobile to be the charity to get the donation.

Volunteer coordinator Huguette Hanna says the bus parks at City Hall every Friday and Saturday during the cold season, to help the homeless and needy.

“We serve soup, so cup-a-soup, sandwiches, at times we have pizza,” she says, “and we also give out socks, mitts.”

Hygiene kits are also available for the clients.

Hanna says that money from Newmont is great. It will help stock the Yo! Mobile, but won’t last long.

“We also have insurance that we have to pay on the bus,” she notes. “We appreciate the donations that do come in.”

You can donate money or food such as cup-a-soup and individually wrapped snacks.

“You can stop on the bus on the weekend to drop it off, or you can send me a private message through Facebook and I can make sure that it’s picked up and brought to the right place,” Hanna says.

The Yo! Mobile parks at City Hall every Friday and Saturday night.  The city supplies the electricity for it.
