Snow changes the game on the road

Just like that – we woke up this morning to several centimetres of wet snow all over everything.

Timmins Police blame it for several fender-benders during the morning commute.  Communications coordinator Marc Depatie interprets the white stuff as a sign that we have to reacquire our winter driving talents.

“We have to keep our speed in mind and increase our following distances between ourselves and the vehicle directly in front of us,” he remarks. That’s in case that vehicle in front brakes or changes direction unexpectedly.

Depatie calls adjusting to road conditions an adaptive skill.

“We all have those skills.  We have to put them in play so that we are able to reach our destination without any undue vehicular drama.”

He adds: “You are responsible for how your vehicle is operated, so driving in keeping with the road and weather conditions is a responsibility that we all share.  So we have to step up our game in order to reach our destination safely.”
