Get ready for Timmins Santa Claus Parade 2019

Three weeks from tomorrow — Saturday, November 16th — is the night so many people in Timmins look forward to every year: the Santa Claus Parade.

BIA executive director Noella Rinaldo and Chamber of Commerce CEO Keitha Robson are co-chairing the event this year, its 30th.  Rinaldo says this is also the 20th year that the parade is held at night. The theme is “Songs of Christmas”.

“We’re still looking for registrations.  It’s on the Chamber website,” says Rinaldo.  “If they would like to volunteer, they would give us a call here at the office at 264-8733.”

Volunteers serve several purposes, not the least of which is walking alongside the floats, making sure no spectator ends up under the wheels.

“Because it’s at night and the way that we are in Northern Ontario, we’re dealing with snowbanks, you’re dealing with a hill, which is great when you’re looking at it from a viewing point, but there’s that safety aspect,” Rinaldo observes “ So we’re always looking for older volunteers, at least older teenagers if we can, that can walk beside the floats just to kind of push people away from the tires.”

The BIA can also help you out, if you’re having difficulty finding a flatbed truck for your float.
