Optimizing operations since Newmont took over Goldcorp in April is the reason given for a layoff today at the Hoyle Pond Mine, just east of Porcupine.
In a written statement, general manager Marc Lauzier says eleven positions have been eliminated, 16 workers will be re-assigned, and hourly workers will change crews and be asked to do different jobs.
Lauzier says no other changes are planned for hourly workers.
In addition, eight contract positions have been eliminated at the Borden project near Chapleau, which recently went into production.
