Library Week a chance to reacquaint yourself

Next week is Public Library Week in Ontario.  Both branches of the Timmins Public Library are inviting you to drop in, especially if it’s been a while since you’ve been.

CEO Carole-Ann Churcher says you’ll be surprised at the wide variety of programs and services.

“Perhaps they don’t know that we have 3D printing or digital media arts for the teens or meeting rooms available, board games, e-books,” she speculates.  “If they come in they can find out all the great things that they can discover at their local library.”

If it’s been a really long time, you’ll also notice that the library isn’t the quiet place it used to be.

“We’re not shushing people anymore,” Churcher laughs.

She says the week is meant to honour the contributions libraries make to education, literacy and life-long learning.

It  begins with Patron Appreciation Day on Monday, and free coffee, tea and cookies all day at both branches.

“So we’re urging citizens to join us in celebrating to visit their library, either in Timmins or South Porcupine.  Register for a membership if you don’t already have one and you’ll find out the variety of resources, services and programs that we have to offer.”
