Colorectal month now on

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. And in Timmins, hospital employees are using the time to explain why everyone needs to be aware of colon cancer. Registered nurse Sue McArthur says if detected early enough, colon and lower bowel cancers are treatable. Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer in Ontario and last year it killed 3,400 people. McArthur says people aged 50 to 74 should be screened for this type of cancer. McArthur says if found early enough, your chance of dying because of colon cancer is reduced by 80 to 90 percent.
