Not far behind the firefighters at an incident like this morning’s on MacLean Drive, is the Canadian Red Cross.
Regional operations manager Serenna Besserer was on the scene with a group of volunteers.
“Our job is to support the families as they’re displaced because of the fire,” she tells My Timmins Now Dot Com. “We provide food, clothing, accommodations, medication and referrals to services such as VCARS if they need counselling.”
Besserer says the Red Cross is always recruiting volunteers for this and other types of relief work.
