Forest fire hazard low to moderate heading into weekend

The forest fire hazard in our region headed into this weekend is either low or moderate, depending on exactly where you are in that region.

Natural resources ministry fire information officer Shane McCool says it won’t necessarily stay that way for the whole weekend.

“What we’re experiencing weatherwise this weekend  is for things to warm up slightly,” he points out,  “and we will see some favourable weather, so that will also increase the hazard as the weekend progresses.”

There’s only one active fire to report.  McCool says it’s in the rural east end of Timmins.

“Just southeast of Nighthawk Lake at 3.3 hectares and that fire is under control at this time.”

Remember: One hectare is roughly the size of a football field.
