The gates open at 4:00pm for the eleventh annual Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival at Participark.
The cliché “bigger and better than ever” applies here.
Tourism Timmins manager Guy Lamarche takes several minutes to list all the attractions featured in the park, in addition to the kayak competitions.
Scratching the surface, there are performing arts lined up to entertain throughout the festival, and a fly-fishing casting demonstration.
“And I’m also very excited to announce that for Saturday-Sunday in the fishing pavilion area, there is also very, very high-tech fishing simulator that is coming to us from a dealer out of Montreal,” Lamarche notes. “And so if you’ve never fished and you want that fishing experience without getting on the water, that’s the place to get it.”
And don’t forget, the Moose FM No Kayak Grand Prix is set to hit the river at six o’clock tonight.
One more highlight to mention: classic cars.
“It’s back with a vengeance,” Lamarche trumpets. “Last year, it had grown from a 30-unit show the previous year to 93 last year. We are expecting upwards of 100 cars this year.”
Many of those cars are from Northwestern Quebec, a region that’s well known for its classic vehicles.
