Population of international students keeps growing at Northern College

Northern College is watching its number of international students continue to grow.

They come from Nigeria, China, and mostly India.

VP-Academic and Student Success Dr. Audrey Penner says depending on how successful applicants are at securing student visas for the fall, there will be close to 33-hundred foreign students at Northern.

“That includes all of our campuses, including our campus in Toronto,” she notes.  “Here on site in Timmins, it will be close to about 600 students and probably another couple of hundred at our other two campuses, Kirkland Lake and Haileybury.  We don’t yet have any international students at our Moosonee campus, though.”

Penner also expects the number of domestic students to increase by twenty percent this fall.

“We’ve been doing some more targeted recruitment with our domestic because we are here to serve the regional population as well,” Penner states. “The last time I saw the data, I believe we were up close to 20% from last year’s intake.”
