‘Kindness Rocks’ in Timmins

A grassroots kindness movement that started a few years ago in the U.S. has found its way to Timmins.

The local “Kindness Rocks” movement was started by Alicia Piri, the owner of Art and Soul Studio in South Porcupine.

This week, about 100 people from a wide age range painted about 300 rocks with short, inspirational messages on one side and #timminskindness on the other.

“The mission of the Kindness Rocks,” Pirie explains, “is stating that one message at just the right time could possibly change someone’s day or someone’s entire outlook on life.”

The rocks are left in random places across the city to be found.

“Somebody had found the rock,” Pirie says of one of them, “and he’s bringing it back to the States with him and he’s going to replant it somewhere in the States.”

Pirie says that by taking a photo and posting it online… whoever painted the rock can see what it means to spread kindness.

She’s planning several more rock painting sessions, but says you don’t have to come to her business to participate.

“If you’re going to paint rocks at home  and write message,” she advises, “just make sure to seal them with a protective sealant on top so that when it rains, that their beautiful designs don’t wash away with the rain.”

Pirie is also planning a charity fundraiser with Kindness Rocks.
