Cannabis retail store will be licenced in Timmins

One day soon, perhaps even by October, you won’t have to wait for your legal marijuana to arrive in the mail or resort to buying it illegally.

Queen’s Park has given the go-ahead for a cannabis retail outlet in Timmins.

It’s one of five northern cities in the latest wave of approvals from the province.  Prospective legal pot purveyors will have to submit documents indicating that they have a store that meets the requirements, and enough capital to open it.  If there’s more than one applicant from Timmins, there will be a draw to determine the one successful bidder.

The aim is to have a total of 42 stores across Ontario start opening in October.

The government is also allocating up to eight licences for stores on First Nations reserves.  Those approvals will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
