Two councillors, two traffic issues

Two Timmins councillors had speed on their minds at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Schumacher Councillor Joe Campbell asked administration to look into a stop sign on Fourth Avenue at Schumacher Public School.

He said cars go speeding through area, and a daycare centre is coming to the school, with buses offloading and onloading on the Fourth Avenue side.

Further east of Schumacher,  Councillor John Curley wants to go back to the days when the speed limit on Highway 101 was 80 kilometres an hour, between the overpass at Pamour and Hallnor Road.  It’s now 70.

So his request is for administration is to consult with the MTO.

“I know we have to get their permission because it’s not a city highway, it’s theirs,” he remarked. “So we have to get their permission if we can bring the speed limit back.”

Curley says he has spoken to residents of the area.  They approve.
