Living Space, PHU reaching out to people who ‘sleep rough’

The Living Space homeless shelter is reaching out to people living on the streets – “sleeping rough” is the term – to help them with any drug problems.

Executive director Jason Sereda says staff from the shelter are going out with a Porcupine Health Unit harm reduction worker, and distributing safe drug supplies.

“So that means supplies to use in a more safe way,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.  “That means distributing naloxone so that people are able to recover from overdoses.  A key component is just meeting people where they’re at so that we can start developing those relationships and then connect them with services.”

“Everything we do at Living Space is relationship based.  If we don’t have the trust of the people accessing our services, then we’re never going to be able to make improved outcomes for them.”
