Volunteers needed for Canada Day celebration in Timmins

The foundation of an event the size of Canada Day in Timmins is its volunteer force.

With ten days to go until the festivities take over Participark, Tourism Timmins still needs volunteers.

Festivals, events and special projects coordinator Marnie Lapierre says she has a lot of shifts to fill, especially in the early morning and the evening.

“Primarily, our concern right now is regarding the parking control,” she emphasizes, “because we want to ensure that nobody is frustrated with the parking situation, that they’re well informed before they try to access one of the parking lots and to make sure that everyone is parking appropriately.”

There are also custodial jobs, keeping the park clean and safe all day, and welcoming ambassadors, which Lapierre says is a really fun job.

“We have our volunteers walking through the park,” she explains,”distributing little Canada flags and Canada flag pins.  It’s just to make everybody feel like part of this patriotic event.”
