ATV enforcement being beefed up by Timmins Police

Watch out for the two Timmins Police all-terrain vehicles when you’re out on your own ATV.

Communications coordinator Marc Depatie says there have been several complaints about them being used on streets and on private property without permission.

He points out that an ATV’s tires do a good job of tearing up the turf.

“The green space between Northern College and the Finn Senior Home in South Porcupine is of particular concern,” he emphasizes. “That is a section of private property that is not designated in any way for ATV use.”

Depatie says that part of the increased police presence will be more focused enforcement – in other words, more charges than warnings.

“There’s an inherent disrespect for private property by a small but persistent segment of the ATV enthusiast population in Timmins,” Depatie observes. “ They continue to operate their ATVs with a sense of reckless abandon.”
