Forest fire holding, but not under control yet

The forest fire known as “Timmins 2” is still not considered under control.  However, natural resources ministry fire information officer Isabelle Chenard says the blaze just a few kilometres from Gogama hasn’t grown the past few days.

“The size of the fire is still 5,622 hectares,” she reports.  “Past rain is allowing crews to make good progress establishing hose lines and as we know, we’ve received a lot of rain in the past few days as well.”

That’s the only fire burning in the Northeast right now, one of seven across the province.

Chenard adds that the fire hazard in the region is low to moderate.

“The fire hazard’s expected to be similar tomorrow, so low to moderate across the region with more rain being forecasted in the region for Saturday.”
