‘Little fire activity’ on forest fire near Gogama

The forest fire just west of Gogama is still considered “not under control” by the natural resources ministry, although information officer Isabelle Chenard says the rain we’ve been getting means it’s not growing. So in firefighter lingo, “there’s little fire activity”.

“A total of 20 fire crews now will be working to establish hose lines and values protection, which is the installation of sprinklers on structures is ongoing.”

A fire crew is composed of four people.

Chenard says heavy equipment has been working on the fire called “Timmins 2”… and aerial suppression – that’s water bombers – is available if needed.

“Just to explain the statuses of control,” she explains, “the first stage of control is Not Under Control, and then we would upgrade it to Being Held once the hose line has been established around the entire perimeter of the fire.”
