EACOM donates lumber for farmers market shelter

The Mountjoy Farmers Market is the lucky recipient of a legacy gift to the city from EACOM, as the company marks the one-hundredth anniversary of its sawmill in Timmins.

EACOM president Kevin Edgson made the announcement at today’s celebration.

“We’re taking lumber that’s been harvested and processed here locally,” he said, “and it’s going to go towards the shelter for the farmer’s market.”

The market is setting up permanent shop just across the river from the mill, in the Mountjoy Historical Conservation Park.  Until the shelter is built, it will operate out of tents, beginning Canada Day and then on Saturdays all summer.

Edgson explained how the donation came to be.

“We reached out to the city when we knew we were going to be celebrating 100 years,” he told My Timmins Now Dot Com,  “and we talked to them about wanting to make a legacy commitment and in discussions back and forth, landed on this being a really good choice for the community of Timmins.”
