CUPE members demand cancellation of planned provincial spending cuts

Ontario public service workers who belong to the Canadian Union of Public Employees left their convention in downtown Toronto for a time Thursday to march to Queen’s Park and demand the cancellation of planned provincial government spending cuts.

Among the thousand or so ralliers were two long term care workers from the Golden Manor in Timmins. We spoke to them by phone during the rally.

Melissa Plouffe and Nancy Loyer are both worried about job cuts in all sectors, and especially concerned about the effect less money will have on their vulnerable residents.

Loyer says if she could talk directly to Premier Doug Ford, she knows exactly what she’d say.

“Stop the cutbacks, support public service. We need a premier that’s going to work in our corner.”
