Textile recycling pilot project for Timmins.

Timmins is the test site for a textile recycling project.

The one-year pilot program will be conducted by Peterborough-based Talize Incorporated, at no cost to the city.

Environmental services manager Scott Tam told council last night that the upside should be the reduction of old clothes and other textiles ending up in landfill.

The company will stage curbside pick-up four times during the year, and have drop-off bins around the city.

The charitable angle on this is Talize’s support of the Children’s Wish Foundation.

The pilot project could lead to permanent presence in Timmins for the company, as it branches out to other northern municipalities.
