Walking to raise money for a wheelchair accessible van

You have lots of time to gather pledges for a Community Living Timmins walkathon set for September 8 at Gillies Lake.

Executive director Johanne Rondeau says all the money raised will go towards a wheelchair-accessible van that’s worth about $80,000.

“A wheelchair accessible van would allow the individuals who reside in our homes the flexibility to attend medical and regular appointments and attend activities in the community,” Rondeau says.

Community Living supports people of all ages who have developmental disabilities with housing, inclusive daycare and employment day programs.

You can walk one, five or ten kilometres during the walkathon.

“We’re very, very hopeful that the whole community is going to get involved,” Rondeau notes, “as we all know that there is a lack of wheelchair accessible transportation in the community at present.”
