Annual Canadian Mining Expo in Schumacher is a huge, international event

For the past several years during Mining Week in Timmins, the first week of June brings the Canadian Mining Expo to Schumacher.

It runs June 5th and 6th,  attracting exhibitors and participants from all over the world.  Organizer Glenn Dredhart from Timmins-based Canadian Trade-Ex remarks on how huge it is.

“You can’t get a motel here in Timmins or a hotel.  You can’t get a motel or hotel in Cochrane,” he states.

Dredhart says he’s proud of what’s going on in the Porcupine mining camp, and to showcase it.

“We’ve got 400 exhibits, both indoor and outdoor.  We’re utilizing the whole McIntyre Arena and complex and the outside grounds.”

That limits parking, so there’s a shuttle service from the ball park on Vipond Road.  It’s staffed by security guards.

One of the dozens of features at the show is a job fair for anyone looking for work in the mining industry.

“If you go online, you can check out the exhibitors that are currently setting up displays there,” Dredhart explains. “And they are all mining-related exhibitors.  So this is a mining job fair.  It’s called ‘Explore Your Options in Mining’.”

The job fair runs from 1:00pm until 5:00pm on Wednesday, June 5th.
