What’s the buzz? Bees aren’t the only pollinators

One trend in gardening the past few years is to emphasize how important bees are as pollinators.

But a workshop at the C.M. Shields branch of the Timmins Public Library in South Porcupine will point out something that not even branch head Louise Gaudette knew before starting to organize it: More than just bees pollinate flowers.

“We have a master gardener coming in,” says Gaudette, “and she’ll be giving us all the buzz on pollinator gardens.”

That master gardener is Catherine Cribbs. On Tuesday, June 4th at 6:30pm, she’ll lead discussion on how bats, birds and butterflies are also pollinators.

“And if there is anybody that is curious about the seed library as well,” Gaudette notes, “this is a program in coordination with the seed library, so we’ll be here to answer any of their questions and check out their seeds.”

All the seeds in the seed library are donated from the gardens of other library patrons.
