What goes in which bin, if at all, an ongoing struggle for City of Timmins waste management

The people who manage what we in Timmins put out to the curb in our grey and blue bins are stepping up their ongoing education initiative about what goes into the bins and what doesn’t.

Waste management supervisor Dwight Chorney says curbside collectors simply don’t empty the bins that contain unacceptable material, and leave an infraction notice.  But it’s not a fine.

“Currently, we’re not charging anyone,” Chorney notes. “ We’re providing a notice and a recycling guide as well, so they can correct the problem.

“I’m not sure that there’s one thing that’s happening more than any other.  But we are seeing some ongoing issues with animal waste actually in the recycling; leaf and yard waste that’s ending up in the recycling; and we’re having a lot of issues with bagged recycling, which is a health and safety concern for the people working at the recycling facility.”

What is and isn’t acceptable is outlined on the city website and the Timmins Recyclepedia app.
