Francophone community health centre hires its first executive director

The board set up to establish the first-ever francophone community health centre in Timmins has taken a big step, hiring its first-ever executive director.

Centre de santé communautaire de Timmins chairman Pierre Bélanger says the successful candidate is Julie Béchard. Since 2005, she has been in the same position with Centre Passerelle, which provides support for women and children affected by abuse.

“She’s worked with a board before,” Bélanger notes.  “She’s worked with different ministries and she had all the qualifications that we needed to get the job done, especially that we’re still starting.

“We needed someone who had built something.  She started from scratch with le Centre Passerelle and she had exactly the profile we were looking for.”

It’s going to be a busy summer for Béchard.  She will find a building for the centre and the people to staff it.  It will provide French-language service by doctors, nurse practitioners and other health care workers in treatment and prevention.
