Reports of phone scams in Timmins are still coming in. Police have sent out another statement saying to be careful when getting calls from someone at Hydro One. In one case, the caller said they were going to shut off Hydro to the house, unless a money transfer was sent. It is very unlikely the utilities company will ask for a money transfer, even if a bill is late. If the caller becomes irate, or can’t provide a call back number, it’s a scam. If it seems suspicious, don’t give any information. You can always hang up and call Hydro One yourself to see if it a real call.
