New grade set-up for two English Catholic schools

Grade 4 students at the new Pope Francis Elementary School in Timmins will not be moving over to O’Gorman Intermediate School this fall after all.

Northeastern District Catholic School Board superintendent of schools Daphne Brumwell says that this year, Grade 5 is at O’Gorman Intermediate.  But increased enrolment there led to the decision to reorganize the grades.

“Pope Francis will now go to kindergarten to Grade 5 school and O’Gorman Intermediate will be a Grade 6, 7, 8 school.” Brumwell outlines.

She says administrators are excited to use Pope Francis School closer to its capacity.

“Our new school actually holds 459 students, and we currently have about 260 students there now, whereas O’Gorman Intermediate can only hold 299 students and there are currently 313 students in that building.”

To recap: Pope Francis will become a kindergarten to Grade 5 school; and O’Gorman Intermediate will have Grades 6, 7 and 8.
