Pride Timmins scaling back this year’s activities

Pride Timmins is scaling back this year on its Pride Week activities.  That word’s from president Matt Villeneuve. “And we’re focussing more on making Timmins a safe space year-round as opposed to one week every year,” he says.

He says that will be accomplished by working with Gender and Sexuality Alliances in local schools and with businesses to do workshops and promote safe spaces for the LGBTQ community outside Pride Week, which is June 3rd to 9th.

“We’re having a comedy and dinner show where we’re getting Elvira Kurt the comedian to come in and do a comedy show along with some others,” Villeneuve notes, but we’re not having the big dance, the big party that we normally do.”

Villeneuve also says it’s because Pride only has a small core of volunteers to organize activities.
