CCAC Strike is creating issues for patients

Thousands of community care access health workers continue to walk the picket lines today, fighting for a small wage increase.

Stories are now emerging about patients suffering from the strike, and not receiving the care they need.

Jennifer Hunt, who is the Local 12 ONA North Bay branch representative, says she’s not surprised that the employers’ contingency plan is failing.

She says they can’t maintain this for very long. They are hearing news that accounting and HR staff are doing the work trained professionals should be doing.

Hunt adds that hospitals are beginning to get overwhelmed with patients who would normally be treated by CCAC nurses.

The longer CCAC workers are picketing, the more pressure will be felt in the hospitals.

Hunt says she would like to see negotiations be resolved as quickly as today.

Over 3500 health care workers have been walking the picket lines since January 30th.
