Timmins city council is looking into raising the volume on audible street lights.
The Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee sent a letter to council which was read in Monday’s meeting.
In it, MAAC is asking that the volume be raised, because they can be hard to hear during the day when traffic is at its heaviest. Councillor Rinaldo, who sits on MAAC, says she is in support of the increase.
She says you can’t hear the lights when the trucks go by, and it it becomes a safety hazard.

Raising the volume would be above the minimum standard, which would not allow those who depend on the lights to cross the street safely.
New buttons have been ordered, which allow for volume settings to be changed.
