South Porcupine Food Bank looking for donations

It’s rarely as bare as Mother Hubbard’s cupboard, but South Porcupine Food Bank board member Dyneisha Dorrington says the shelves are never full.

“We’re always looking for donations,” she says, “whether non-perishable food items or monetary donations for us to buy perishable food items such as milk, bread, meat, so that we can give a well-rounded basket of food to folks that are accessing the food bank.”

If you’d rather open your wallet than shop for groceries, the food bank does accept money, too.

Dorrington says money helps fill the gaps on the shelves.

“So sometimes we get a lot of canned vegetables. Sometimes we get a lot of frozen food.  But we ned that money to be able to purchase things fresh, like vegetables, milk, bread, that’s going to perish easily.”

Click here to find out how to donate. That’s also where there are details on volunteering at the food bank.
