Organizers estimate that 300 people took advantage on Sunday of the weather and the free event at Roy Nicholson Park: a family fun day put on by the Timmins Community Park Association.
“We didn’t know what to expect. This is our first pop-up event and it’s been successful,” TCPA board member Brenda Torresan told My Timmins Now Dot Com.
She says the TCPA is working on getting the Hollinger skating oval back up for next year. In the meantime, it will have more fun pop-ups in every part of the city.

“To help get the word out, to bring the community together,” Torresan commented, “ to show everybody that we are here and we’re not going away. We are all volunteers of a not-for-profit group and we just want to move forward.”
Yesterday’s event featured a snow fort building contest, snowshoe and plank races, boot hockey and roasting marshmallows over a bonfire.
TCPA’s major project is reviving the Hollinger Skateway. Torresan says it’s also looking for corporate financial help.
“Letters will be going out soon to companies and businesses and anybody that would like to make a donation to the group, because we are non-profit.”
