Controversy at City Council

Timmins city council is setting a dangerous precedent, according to first time councilor Joe Campbell. In a heated meeting last night, Campbell expressed his frustrations that a matter he requested to come to council was passed over.

An email exchange between Campbell and the city’s Manager of Transit shows that any decision to expand the service would be passed over because of budget issues.

Campbell says this is a dangerous precedent, and all requests for information should be approved by council in the future.

Campbell says going forward; any requests for information should be brought to council for approval, including those from Mayor Steve Black.

In a written speech given out to the media, Campbell says this is an effort to muzzle councillors, with an ongoing theme of “don’t ask too many questions”.
