PIRIE RE-IGNITES AGREEMENT WITH INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY

Ever since he launched his campaign to become mayor Timmins, George Pirie has extolled the value of working with the indigenous community.

Last week, he participated in the re-ignition of the Mushkegowuk-Timmins Economic Alliance.  It encompasses seven First Nations in the region.

“That agreement was first signed in 2011 and little has been done,” the mayor said while delivering his State of the City speech. “ I’m extremely excited about the potential that this agreement brings the City of Timmins.

“There is a larger vision here and it’s the vision of reconciliation.  We must educate, engage and enlist our population in this process.  We must celebrate and embrace our own diverse cultural heritage.  Working together, we can accomplish great things.”
