NEW LOCATION, CHANCE FOR EXPANSION FOR ALZHEIMER SOCIETY

After 31 years serving the area from the Tri-Towns to Hearst from an office in Timmins… the Alzheimer Society of the Timmins-Porcupine District is celebrating a much larger, much more visible location.

The ribbon was cut Wednesday afternoon at the 101 Mall.

Executive director Tracy Koskamp-Bergeron says until now, the organization’s profile was quite low.

“Being in the 101 Mall actually increases our visibility as there are many different organizations that are co-located here, where people are coming,” she comments. “ It gives better parking and we have a much larger space so we can actually host our events onsite.”

Koskamp-Bergeron says the new location will provide more opportunities for walk-in business – that’s people looking for information – and allows support groups and education programs to be offered onsite, instead of finding spaces for them.

“We’re looking to partner with the Porcupine Health Unit to offer the stand-up program, which is an exercise program for people over 60 as well as improving our music project and our programs that we currently offer.”
