The deadline is approaching for underprivileged families in Timmins to apply for funding, so their kids can play organized sports.
Sports for Kids Timmins president Colleen Landers says funding must be applied for before the sport holds registration. So for sports that start in April or later, the deadline is March 10th.
“We just reopened the office. So we’re trying to get applicants to come into the office and do their applications so they don’t miss out.”
Sports for Kids is a donor-funded charity. Its office is in the arena foyer at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex.
Landers outlines the family income levels to qualify: “For one child, it’s a gross income of $31,000; for two children, 35,000; for three, $40,000 and for four or more, $44,000.”
A family approved for funding will receive two vouchers per child that can be used for registration and equipment.
