ROCK & GLOW CURLING COMES TO COCHRANE

Think 1970s-era discotheque, and combine it with the game of curling.

Members of the Cochrane Curling Club had so much fun with “Rock and Glow Curling” as a season wrap-up event last year, they’re staging an entire bonspiel with it at the end of this month.

Organizer Heather Decevito says that thanks to black light and fluorescent paint, hurling 40-pound granite stones down a rink in the dark isn’t as dangerous as you might think.

“You can see the lines between the houses,” Decevito explains. “ It glows all the way down, so you know to stay in your path.  People are glowing, because they all put on the whites and they glow.”

As much fun as it is, Decevito says it can severely test your curling skills.

“It’s your perception.  That’s the big thing, is trying to judge distance in the dark.”
