NEW JOB FOR STEVE BLACK, RETURNING TO KIDD MINE

Former mayor of Timmins Steve Black just started a new job.

He has gone back to Glencore’s Kidd Operations, where he worked before becoming mayor in 2014.

Black is now a senior mine engineer on projects at the Kidd mine.

“We’ll talk about those over the coming weeks,” he says, “but obviously they have theor program where they’re looking at the life of the mine and I’m sure I’ll be involved in those discussions and project work with that as well.

“I had a pretty good relationship with the mine when I left, so I think that door was always open to return if I decided to end my political life, or if my political life came to an end, that provided the mine was still operating, that there’d be possible opportunities there.”

After serving one term as mayor of Timmins, Black was defeated in the October election by George Pirie.
