MORE DETAILS: STEVE BLACK’S PROPOSAL FOR STARS & THUNDER 3

Former mayor Steve Black will be back in the Timmins Council Chamber on Tuesday night, pitching his revamped plan for a Stars and Thunder Festival to the new council.

Black says it would be reduced to four days from the previous eight. He acknowledges that Mayor George Pirie and council are opposed to the financial risk for Stars and Thunder 3,  so promoter Ron Yakamoto is prepared to bear all all of it, if the city puts up some money as a sponsor.

Steve Black: “All the financial risk would be on the promotion and the festival team and the city’s commitment would be capped at the $300,000 that’s being asked for.”

The city is also being requested  to take care of tents and other provisions at Hollinger Park.

And, appealing to one of Pirie’s top priorities – the homelessness issue – Black says a portion of the proceeds of 50-50 raffle sales at the festival would go to organizations dedicated to the issue.

Black says depending on the status of the work now going on at the park, the music and fireworks event – if approved — would be on either Canada Day weekend or Civic Holiday weekend.
