LET IT SNOW TO PREVENT FROZEN PIPES: CITY COUNCILLOR

The bitter cold of January and February can’t be avoided. If we don’t get a lot of snow soon, we could be suffering through a winter of frozen water pipes.

Timmins city councillor Noella Rinaldo is worried about that, thinking back three or four years, when there wasn’t enough snow to insulate underground pipes.

“We know the cold is coming, so if we don’t get some snow, we could be dealing with some harsh realities of our hundred-year-old infrastructure,” she says.

Rinaldo passes along the advice of the city’s engineering department: keep a tap running a bit.  That could prevent your pipes from freezing up.  And if you’re going to be away, have someone check on your house every day.
