CDN. BLOOD SERVICES LOOKING FOR 269 UNITS IN TIMMINS

The call is out for blood, as a Canadian Blood Services donor centre – formerly called a blood donor clinic – is in the second of three days in Timmins.

The territory manager for donor relations for Canadian Blood Services, Jenny Fortin, says especially needed is O-negative blood.  It’s the universal blood type, and can help anyone, regardless of their own blood type.

“In the holidays, we see an increase of car accidents,” Fortin states, “ because people are travelling.  So we’re trying to encourage O-negative donors to roll up their sleeves this holiday season.  That being said, all blood is always in need.”

The target by the time staff wrap up at St. Dominique Church tomorrow is 269 units.  The donor centre is open today, 4:00-8:00pm, and tomorrow, 11:00am-2:00pm.

“You don’t need an appointment,” notes Fortin, “but appointments just help us kind of get an idea of how much blood we can expect to collect.  But certainly we realize that a lot of people cannot make an appointment so if they have time, just walk in, by all means please do.”

More details, including making an appointment, are at 1-888-2-DONATE or blood.ca .
