First flu case reported

The first case of the flu has been reported in our area. It was reported on the 24th in Kapuskasing. Ranelle Lafleur, a Public Health Nurse with the Porcupine Health Unit, says now we can expect cases to show up in Timmins.

Lafleur says the best way to keep yourself healthy and protected from the virus is to get the flu shot. She also says keeping your hands and common surface areas clean and disinfected will go a long way.

Lafleur also says if you are sick, to stay home. It is not too late to get your flu shot. Call the Porcupine Health Unit to book an appointment, or visit your family doctor.

Ranelle Lafleur is with the Infectious Disease Program at the Health Unit, and she says there are steps to take if you do think you have the flu.
