FOLEYET UNDER WATER ADVISORY

Anyone who gets their tap water from the municipal system in Foleyet is being advised not to use it, except for bathing and laundry.

A power outage knocked out the system.  It’s been restored, but Public Health Sudbury & Districts says it shouldn’t  be used until testing proves that it’s safe.  A loss of pressure can cause a water system to become contaminated.

In a release, the health authority says boiling isn’t a sure way to make it safe.  So for the time being, the tap water should not be used “for drinking; making juice, infant formula, or ice; cooking; washing uncooked fruits and vegetables; or brushing teeth.”  It advises using bottled water.  If you use it to make infant formula, it should be boiled first.

Although the water is safe for bathing, the advisory says small children should not be bathed in it, because of the risk of them swallowing it.

For details on how to safely make the formula or any other questions, you can call the information line at 705-522-9200, ext. 342, or toll-free at 1-866-522-9200.  The web address is www.phsd.ca.
