FOLEYET UNDER WATER ADVISORY

The public health authority in Sudbury is warning Foleyet residents not to use their tap water for most purposes.

In a release, Public Health Sudbury and Districts says anyone who gets their water from the municipal system should not drink it, or for ” making juice, infant formula, or ice; cooking; washing uncooked fruits and vegetables; or brushing teeth.”

It goes on to say that boiling the water might not make it safe, so the authority recommends using bottled water.  Even that should be boiled for making infant formula.  To find out how to do it properly,  call the information line at 705-522-9200, ext. 342, or toll-free, 1-866-522.-9200.

Tap water can still be used for bathing and doing laundry, but you’re advised not to bathe small children in it, due to the risk of them swallowing it.

The advisory traces back to a power outage that knocked out Foleyet’s water supply for a time.  The health authority says the supply has been re-established, but residents shouldn’t use it until advised that it’s safe. The loss of pressure in a water system often compromises its safety.

Bacteriological testing is being carried out.

You can ask any questions about the water at the phone numbers listed above… or online at  www.phsd.ca.
