6:30 PM UPDATE: TOTAL RAISED SO FAR $37,800

Goldcorp Porcupine Gold Mines donated $5,000 to start the Moose FM Feeding Families Radiothon this morning, challenging other mining companies and anyone involved in any way in the industry to donate to the Stan Fowler Santa Claus.

The gauntlet was thrown down in advance of TODAY’s Moose FM Feeding Families Radiothon for the Stan Fowler Santa Claus Fund.

To kick off the fundraising event at Timmins Square, Gorf Manufacturing/Contracting will donate a cheque for $500. Gorf Treasurer Brad Norkum notes that that’s $10 for every year it’s been in business.

“We’re kind of hoping that our contribution will entice other businesses into donating $10 for years in business, or ten dollars in general.”

There’s no doubt in Norkum’s mind that the Santa Claus Fund is worth supporting.

“We have for as long as I can remember,” he comments. “It’s a great cause.  We’ve got to feed those empty bellies, especially at Christmas.”

The radiothon runs live on Moose FM, TODAY from 9:00am to 9:00pm.  The target is to beat last year’s total of $52,000.  It was converted into grocery vouchers for 375 needy families.
