‘CANDY CANES FOR EVERYONE!’ AT TREE-LIGHTING CEREMONY

The symbol is the same with the same goal – adding to Christmas spirit – but the community Christmas tree for Timmins has had to move this year.

The celebration of the tree lighting happens Saturday between 5:00 and 7:00pm at the Timmins Museum.

Marnie Lapierre of Tourism Timmins says starting four years ago, the tree has been at Hollinger Park.

“But now that the park is under construction,” she notes, “ we had to look at another location central to the city, and of course, the museum was a perfect spot.”

“We will be having hot cocoa served here at the museum,” says Lapierre, “Santa will be on site to your letters and requests if you’ve been a good little boy or girl.  And the Timmins Symphony Choir will be her singing Christmas carols and giving some Christmas joy.  And there will be candy canes for everyone!”
