TWO AIR CADETS TO BE HONOURED

Two Timmins air cadets will be honoured by their peers Monday night, at a special “Wings Parade” at the local armoury.

Over the past two summers, Chief Warrant Officer Marc-Olivier Gauthier and Warrant Officer Second Class Jacob Weedon have achieved both their power flight and glider licences.

Capt. Marie-Anne Irvine says that’s a lot of work.  “They’ve spent hours studying to get these licences, even to be selected for them,” she comments. “They’ve had to take ground school. They’ve had to be physically fit. They’ve had to be good cadets.  Then the course itself – the glider course is a six-week intensive fast-track course.  The power licence is a seven-week course.”

Monday’s special reviewing officer is AirCanada Jazz pilot, Captain Kevin Rodger.  He got his power and glider pilot licences as an air cadet,  and was once the instructor at the Nighthawk Flying Club in Iroquois Falls.
