Liberal MP’s Denounce Fall Economic Statement

Six Ontario Liberal MPs, who are Francophone or represent Francophones in their ridings, are denouncing the Ford government’s fall economic statement.

It’s because the MPs say the Tories are cutting Francophone language rights.

Among the MPs are Anthony Rota, who represents Nipissing-Timiskaming, and Nickel Belt’s Marc Serre.

The Liberal MPs say what Premier Doug Ford is doing is unacceptable.

Serre, Rota and their colleagues say Franco-Ontarians need to defend their communities and institutions.

The politicians plan to mobilize the 640,000 Franco-Ontarians to resist the cuts to their language rights and services.

Among the cuts are the cancellation of Ontario’s first ever Francophone university announced last year by the former Wynne government.

Although the former Liberal government didn’t name a specific site, the post-secondary school was planned for somewhere in Southwestern Ontario.

The Ontario Liberal MPs say Franco-Ontarians have a proud legacy of contributing to Ontario’s prosperity.

In a statement signed by all six MPs, the representatives say “As Francophones, it is time to unite against these decisions and tell the province they must not take us for granted”.
